Vera Mae Thompson-Canon, 90, passed away at the Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines on Tuesday, January 31, 2012. She was born on March 5, 1921 in Russell, Iowa to Howard & Edna (Feight) Baughman. Vera graduated from Indianola High School and was united in marriage to Homer Loren Thompson. They made their home in Des Moines and he preceded her in death in 1985. Vera married Dolar Cannon and he also preceded her in death.
During her life Vera was a full time wife & mother, and her family was central in her life. She was also active in her church, Meredith Drive Reformed and was the last surviving Charter Member.
Vera is survived by a son, Howard "Sonny" (Karen) Thompson of Des Moines, two daughters, Carolyn (Cecil) Stouwie of Port Richey, FL, Bonni (Richard) Sorenson of Phoenix. Her memory is also cherished by her very close family of four brothers, five sisters, eleven grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands and one brother.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 4th at 3:00 pm at the Meredith Drive Reformed Church at 5128 Meredith Drive, Des Moines, visitation will be held at the church from 1:30 pm until service time. Entombment at the Chapel Hill Gardens Mausoleum will be private. A Memorial Fund has been established.
