Lori Steelman, 54, took her solo ride on January 27, 2012 at Mercy Hospice surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Merle Hay Funeral Home with burial to follow at Harper Cemetery in Redfield, IA. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home Tuesday evening.

Lori was born October 24, 1957 in Des Moines and married Patrick Steelman, the love of her life, on June 18, 1977. They had two children, Nathan and Nakia Steelman.

Lori became a Registered Nurse in 1991 after graduating from DMACC and began her career at Mercy Medical Center. In December 1994, she began working at Broadlawns Medical Center where she eventually became Clinic Nurse Supervisor, a position she held until her passing. Lori loved being a nurse and enjoyed all aspects of her profession.

In her free time, Lori enjoyed riding Harleys with Pat and going on trips with family members. She recently learned to ride on her own. Lori also enjoyed the Girls' Annual Camping trips to Lake Anita with her family as well as her annual canoe trips with her high school girlfriends. Family and friends were extremely important to Lori and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Lori was preceded in death by her mother, Sonya Atkins and brother-in-law, Steve Harrison.

In addition to her husband of 34 years, survivors include son, Nathan (Jennifer) Steelman of Adel; daughter, Nakia Steelman (Dave Stonehocker) of Adel; grandchildren, Sebastion, Lyberty and Dane Steelman and one on the way; siblings: Cheryl Harrison of Adel, Tracie Madren (Matt Hicks) of Redfield, Wes Atkins of Adel and Matt Atkins (Brooks) of Humboldt; 37 nieces and nephews; parents-in-law, Cordell and Janet Steelman of Adel; siblings-in-law, Cindy (Larry) Stepp, Scott Steelman (Nicci Jolesch) and Steve (Kim) Steelman; as well as extended family and many friends.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for later donations made to Lori's favorite charities.
